Summer’s here in the Western World!! Copa America, Wimbledon and Euro 2020 have all come to an end. Schools are about to break for the summer in the UK and “Freedom Day” is around the corner. It’s time to relax, forget about the future and live for the moment. Or is it? Some of the most successful people in history talk about taking action when others are not. If you want to make a move in the next 6 months, the time to get ahead is to start now! No change is easy, but great things can happen with the right strategy and planning. Let’s take a look.
The Impossible Journey is the One You Never Begin – Tony Robbins
Tony Robbins, one of this generation’s most inspirational life coaches and business strategists knows that life is a game and we are all on a journey. The one way to guarantee that you don’t make progress is to struggle to take action.
A career is a journey. On average it lasts around 40 years. You spend half of the time that you are awake on this journey and yet people don’t enjoy it! Why? Because they don’t plan. They bounce from one thing to another and stay comfortable.
At Careerships we have a 100% success rate with getting our clients to where they want to be and a huge part of the journey that we take them on is the start. This is why we offer a completely free zoom consultation so that we can understand your individual context, scenario and objectives and outline a roadmap for changing your circumstances to get you to where you want to be. The hardest part of the journey is the first step. Then you just keep moving!
Be fearful when others are greedy. Be greedy when others are fearful – Warren Buffet
Warren Buffet, the Oracle of Omaha and widely regarded as one of the best financial investors in the World knows that the key to success is often to do the opposite of those around you and what might feel comfortable. Push outside your comfort zone and you can end up in a more successful space. The journey may be harder but much more fulfilling once you get there!!
Covid19 for many people has been an unprecedented time in our lives that we are not prepared for. Change outside of a human’s control leads to anxiety, stress and fear. Right now, freedom day is around the corner but the constant rising of cases and the fight between the anti-vaxxers and the clinicians causes many people to be confused about what is best for their health and their families health.
If you are feeling fearful like many of those around you, unsure of what will happen next, it’s important here to zoom out on your timeline. Think about where you are in life. If you are anxious about tomorrow, zoom out a little further. If you are stressed about next month, zoom a little further. Keep zooming out and you will realise that actually some of the things affecting you are less important with a universal perspective. Then think about what you can change and what you would like to change so that a year from now your circumstances are better and more fulfilling. We only get one life after all!!
When you start to see what that might be, a new job, better income, a better house, feeling gitter, it’s time to be selfish, be greedy and go for it. Whilst everyone around you is clinging to what they know best because of the fear factor, if you are greedy you will get ahead.
Long term sustainable excellent change takes time. If you bounce from one thing to another quickly you may get a short term fix but it might not be the right change. On average a good quality career change can take 6 months. So if you would like to be in a new exciting role around Christmas time or just after, the time to start strategising is now! Get ahead before the world wakes up in September!
Coming Together is the beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success. Henry Ford.
Henry Ford, one of the most successful business people of the last century, inventor, industrialist, business magnate and some would say the inventor of the 9-5 and CPD “Continuous Professional Development”.
Henry knew just like Tony that the getting started is the key and in order to make the best progress the journey is not one that can be faced alone.
To succeed in life and in careers, many people need support. It could be a good partner, a supportive family, an excellent leader guiding you, a mentor, or a coach. Whatever it may be that keeps you going, the changes of success are infinitely higher if you are in a focused partnership that sticks together through the good and the bad. This is where success comes from.
