Sales. A Dirty Word?

Sales. Sounds pretty straight forward, right? Someone sells and someone buys. But what are they selling? And what are they buying? And how did they do it? This opens up many questions in various fields and can even be dirty.

So, let’s get to it and ask yourself,

Do you treat your network like a one night stand?

In essence,

→ are you following up with each individual in your network?

→ are you attaching any emotions within your network?

→ what do you do for others in your network?

Although this may be a far out comparison, it gives you a chance to reflect. After all, you’re only as good as your last interaction.

When was the last time you sold something?

The Careerships Alumni were asked this last week. Answers ranged from feeling guilty so they had to buy a Teddy Bear and its suitcase at the Qatar Airport before their flight, to selling oneself in an interview to progress their career.

Have you ever reflected on how you felt when you were sold something?

Understanding your emotions that were played upon, is pivotal to sales success. You can use this knowledge to further leverage your own skills and techniques, to help gain your desired results.

6 steps to Sales Success

How can you engage in sales without doing others and yourself dirty?

  1. Audacity

Noun

A willingness to put yourself out there.

→  “Be bold!”

→ “Put yourself out there.”

→ “You’ll never know unless you try.”

Give yourself the audacity to be ambitious without anything stopping you. Just go for it. If it works, it works and if it doesn’t, it doesn’t. By giving it everything you’ve got, you’ve already made yourself a strong starting point and an element of personalised reflection. At least you’ll know the outcome and by doing so, you’ve taken the first step to propel your sale success.

2. Reputation

Noun

The beliefs or opinions that are generally held about someone or something.

→ Sales + Reputation = Lead Generation

If people know you and what you’re like, chances are your sales will become a lot easier.

It’s important to note that building a good reputation takes time, with this, practice does make perfect. Take the time to discover your business preferences and adapt them to your own style to build authentic credibility and boost your sales.

3. Discipline

Noun

The practice of training people to obey rules or a code of behaviour, using punishment to correct disobedience.

Giving yourself audacity is one thing, and building your reputation is another. But to bridge these two successfully, you need to maintain your efforts.

Be consistent and follow through with what you say. By sticking to your word, you become reliable, and your vision becomes clearer.

4. Intuition

Noun

The ability to know something by using your feelings rather than considering the facts.

·      What does your gut say?

·      Is this individual likely to buy what you are selling or not?

Find out more by asking open questions, seeing if there is potential and whether it aligns with your goal. If it doesn’t, it can cause much frustration which could’ve been avoided if you had just listened to yourself.

Trust your intuition to guide you.

5. Confidence

Noun

The feeling or belief that one can have faith in or rely on someone or something.

If you’re not confident, why would anyone buy from you?

If you are struggling to be confident, never fear, as there are ways to trick yourself into being confident!

For example, you could:

→ Fake it till you make it – act like someone who is confident

→ Imagine everyone is naked - makes things less intimidating

→ Look good, feel good – naturally makes you feel happier and encourages you to assertive

6. Character

Noun

Simply, be true to who you are.

→ What are your values?

→ What is your selling style?

→ Do you believe in your product/service/yourself?

Character is what builds your authenticity. It’s unique to you and what makes you stand out from the crowd, so don’t breach this.

Use your character to form genuine relationships!
